Laura has worked within the insurance industry for 15 years, starting in an administration role after leaving school, and working her way up to becoming a claims manager.
Shortly after achieving the ACII qualification and reaching Chartered Insurer status, Laura took a 5 year career break.
Now she is looking to return to work within the claims sector, however is feeling a little apprehensive regarding her ability to confidently perform her management role effectively and provide strong leadership and direction to her teams, despite having a vast background of technical knowledge
Prior to starting her new role, Laura reinstates her membership with the CII, and feels the new Professional Map tool would be beneficial to use. She carries out the self-assessment under Claims Band 3 to identify potential areas which could be improved upon.
As anticipated, she scored highly in the claims and core practice sections, which gives her confidence in her strengths, however identified some weakness in areas such as Ethics and Compliance along with Data and Technology. This doesn't surprise her as much has changed in these areas during her time off work.
Laura has several meetings with her manager during her induction process, and together they create a clear development plan for the coming year:
